Proceeds from the Annual Thanksgiving Charity Drive

As Christmas is rapidly approaching, the AmCham office would like, in the spirit of the season, to remind our members of the Annual Thanksgiving Charity Drive, which was organized with the intent of sharing with those who need it the most in our community.

The chosen recipient of this year’s charity drive was Dom Márie Magdalény/Maria Magdalena House, which is located in eastern Slovakia, near Kežmarok.

In addition to all AmCham members being notified via email, attendees of the AmCham Thanksgiving Charity Dinner had a chance to learn more about the activities at the Gala Dinner as well as through other pre-event promotion.

This year, the following charity was selected:
Dom Márie Magdalény/Maria Magdalena House – NGO Maria Magdalena House has served mothers with their children in Žakovce (Kežmarok county) since 2001. It primarily serves as a refuge for women with children who were abandoned by their family, pregnant women with no family support or women with children who were subject to violent behavior. They are provided with housing, food and professional social care for both them and their children. Despite the official capacity being six women with children, due to high number of difficult cases within the local communities, there are currently nine women with children residing in the House. The House also tries to be partly self-sufficient and its residents produce bakery products as well as hand-made toys in order to raise funds to cover their needs. The financial support would be used to provide more completely for the residents of the house.

We are happy to announce that AmCham Slovakia donated 6,890 EUR to Maria Magdalena House.

Once again we would like to thank you for your generosity!
