Mentor Network Program

  • You need to be a full-time student of an accredited master program in Slovakia or abroad.
  • You need to submit a complete application containing professional resume and statement of purpose. Please fill out the attached AmCham template

I. Preparation phase
After being selected for the program, students are required to attend a short preparatory session (cca 45 minutes), which will take place at the US Embassy in Bratislava on May 24, 2016 at 3:00PM. This short meeting will help them to prepare for the upcoming reception and the meeting with their mentor.

II. Reception
Reception, which will take place on June 2, 2016 at 5:30PM at the Residence of the US Ambassador in Bratislava, is a unique opportunity for the students to meet the business representatives and their future mentors in an informal way. During this social event students are encouraged to discuss anything from school, work, management, leadership, and other topics with present business representatives.

III. Personal meetings
After the reception, students are matched with their future mentors and are invited for a personal meeting at the respective company. Pairing is conducted based on students‘ preferences as well as their background. Your selected mentor committs to host the student for at least one meeting during the semester in his/her company offices, providing a company and industry overview, as well as advising and counseling on career-related topics (e.g. interviewing skills, resume development or business etiquette). After the first meeting it is completely up to the student and his mentor to decide what the next steps would be.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ):

Do I have to speak perfect English in order to participate?
While the official language of the program is English, most of the mentors are Slovak nationals. You will need to submit your application in English but the following preparatory session as well as the reception with mentors will be mostly in Slovak. The most important thing we look at is your motivation and your previous extracurricular achievements and activities.

Can I apply if I already participated in the program in the past?
We give preference to students who have not yet participated in the program. However, as an alumni you are more than welcome to apply and send us your application as long as you are still a full-time university student. So if you did not get your preferred mentor during one of the previous years, send us your application by the required deadline and try it again this year

Will all of the students get their mentor?
Each year we have between 25 – 30 mentors. Since the number of accepted students is higher, not all of them will be paired with their own mentor. Students have their chance to impress by a quality application as well as proactive networking during the reception with mentors. Afterwards it is the task of the organizers to pair the top students with their future mentors.

How much does it cost?
There are no costs associated with the program for you as a student. It is completely free of charge to submit your application, participate at the reception and meet your mentor. So why wait any longer to apply? Send your application by March 6 and be part of this unique program.

I am not a student of economics or management. Can I still apply?
Of course you can. Mentor Network Program is designed for students from all areas of study. Mentors also range from a wide variety of companies and sectors. More importantly, the main goal is to pair talented students with experienced business representatives in order to help young people gain inspiration and valuable advice for their future plans and endeavours. Your mentor can help you with important choices you will face in both your personal as well as professional life.
